What this tier is
Vertical software is the system a firm in one profession already runs on: a law practice-management suite, an immigration case tool, a mortgage submission platform, an insurance brokerage system. These vendors are adding AI features to the product firms already pay for. Their customer lists give them direct access to every firm in the niche. Capital behind them ranges from small bootstrapped teams to billion-dollar valuations.

AI-first services next to the suites
- Smith.ai answers calls with AI or humans for law firms: it says 5,000+ law firms.
- Caseflood combines an AI platform with a human intake team for law firms that buy leads; it raised US$3.2M and offers a free intake audit.
- Jump (Salt Lake City) takes meeting notes and syncs to CRMs for financial advisors at US$100 per advisor per month; US$20M Series A in February 2025.
Patterns
- AI arrives as a tier or add-on. MyCase bundles AI writing into its Pro plan, Docketwise IQ is in higher plans, Smokeball's Archie is an add-on, and Lawmatics prices AI separately, by outcome or by user. Lendesk offers Jupiter, its US platform, free of charge (MPA).
- Prices are published by the smaller vendors. Visto, Docketwise, MyCase, BrokerPlus and bips list prices. Clio, Lawmatics, Smokeball, Sonant and Applied do not.
- Features sit inside each vendor's own platform. Drafting tools work within one app; intake products are mostly forms, chatbots or phone answering before a meeting. Many integrations are one-way connections to a single system, such as Epic.
- Ecosystems differ in how open they are. Clio, MyCase and Lawmatics have consultant or agency programs; Applied certifies software vendors; Newton approves API users one by one. Terms and directory sizes are on the buyers page.
- Large and small coexist. BrokerPlus launched in 2026 with three employees and a $199 plan beside platforms valued at billions.
